Nationally-renowed pianist/musician aspiring to major in CS at Stanford University, combining my interests for the arts and science!
I wanted to be as true to myself as possible in the given essay prompts - adding bits of humor, and showing my passion for the arts and technology. I applied to schools that had solid music programs/music technology programs and submitted a music portfolio alongside my application. Some schools required auditions via Zoom after passing pre-screening. While showing interest in these programs, I mentioned specific professors and ensembles I would look forward to studying/performing with. I initially applied to Harvard for REA but was deferred - and eventually declined on Ivy Day. The day after, I was accepted into my dream school Stanford, a school I never thought I was worthy enough to attend. Shoot for the stars in the application process!

Why are you interested in attending Columbia University? We encourage you to consider the aspect(s) that you find unique and compelling about Columbia. Every Saturday for the past 11 years, I have frequented Morningside Heights’ cafes and parks on my way to the Manhattan School of Music. My friends and I would order pizza at the Manhattanville Market and meet Columbia students; they made us feel welcomed and were all clearly passionate about their studies.
While Columbia’s campus is strikingly elegant, I have observed firsthand the prevalence of homelessness and childhood poverty in the neighborhood. At Columbia, I would find great fulfillment in giving
