Every year, over 100 billion pounds of food gets thrown out in the U.S. alone, with the majority of the waste coming from distributors and restaurants. In landfills, food waste releases methane - an extremely potent greenhouse gas that contributes to climate change. If I could change one thing about my community, I would break down the barriers to the distribution of unsold food products at every level, from expired goods at distributors to perishables at local restaurants.
