Economics student with an interest in Journalism and Finance at Princeton University
My initial college list had 24 schools on it, and I had no idea how to limit my options. I did not know what I wanted to study or have any restrictions based on size of school or geographical location, which made narrowing down my list much more difficult. I ended up deciding to apply to 23 out of the 24 schools (my mom would not let me apply to the Naval Academy), and I do not regret it at all. Everyone thought I was crazy: my school assigned college counselor, my friends, my family, complete strangers; however, I knew I would be willing to fill them out if it meant I would have options. I am so glad I did because options are exactly what I had. I applied to all of my public schools EA, and I selected one school to apply to REA. I was not set on the one school I applied to REA, as I wasn't set on any school (which is why I did not apply ED anywhere). Not being set on a dream school made the process of hearing back much easier. I started writing my supplements on August 1 when they came out, and I had drafts of most of them written before my senior year even started. My main tip would be to just get something down, even if it needs lots of editing. All in all, despite my large quantity of applications, my process was fairly seamless and not as horrible as upperclassmen and media sources make it out to be. Good luck!

Brown students care deeply about their work and the world around them. Students find contentment, satisfaction, and meaning in daily interactions and major discoveries. Whether big or small, mundane or spectacular, tell us about something that brings you joy. (200-250 words) It all began when I got my hands on the Harry Potter series. I would read the novels in a British accent, imitating the characters’ voices. My family watched helplessly as I grabbed sticks and rulers—my makeshift magic wands—and acted out the spells. The characters and their worlds came to life in my head; therefore, simply sitting in a chair and letting these visions wash over me never seemed to do the novels justice. To this day, as long as I am not in a library or classroom, I spring up from my chair when I read. Now, it is Jane Austen’s words, rather than J. K. Rowling’s, that have me spinning in circles.
Just as great authors inspire me to act, I hope to inspire others into action with my own writing. Last summer, I interned with the Neighbor Newspapers and wrote articles for my community about restau
