23+1, would be a senior at Yale! Humanities kid, former theater-nerd, passion for the environment and, yes, the Bachelor. Happy to share what wisdom I can!
College, from start of the application process to graduation (and beyond) is a really weird thing, in many ways more myth than reality. I was super into college apps when I was young and my siblings were applying (which is part of why I’m happy to share all my essays with you). But by the time I got to applying myself, I basically just threw a lot at the wall with applications to see what landed - I applied to a bunch of schools, mostly Ivies, assuming I wouldn’t get into most of them. That was super important for managing expectations and stress. I made my peace and decided that I’d probably be equally happy wherever I ended up. I was lucky enough that I did, at which point I chose the school based on which vibes fit me best. I was spot on about the vibes fitting me, but four years later I’m still not sure that made it actively better. Every school has drawbacks, every school has draws, and what you choose to do at college is probably more important than which college you choose to do it at. And I think, even though I had no clue what my college experience would be like when I was in HS, I had the same broad-strokes perspective on the significance of the college process.

How did you decide where to apply early?
Don’t do what I did! Or maybe do? I applied early to Harvard, because it was « objectively » the best school, and because we thought legacy (from my mom) would help me get in. Even though I had wanted

What would you do differently if you were to redo the application cycle?
Probably applying to fewer Ivies. But that might just be hindsight, having gotten into a few. I think that the theory was - both for prestige (and some real things like academic opportunities etc. etc

One of my recommenders was my AP Calc teacher, another was my English teacher of a few years (who I also worked with on our school’s literary magazine). It was a lot of specific criteria first: had to

Try to keep perspective! It’s been a while, and many more stressful things have happened since, so I probably am forgetting a little of how stressful it was. But in general — I was a youngest child an
