UIUC student majoring in Computer Science, Class of 2026
I actually applied to QuestBridge first, but once I got rejected from there, I had to quickly transition my applications over to EA/RD. Thus, I applied to MIT and Cal Tech EA, and the rest of my schools RD. MIT was my first choice, but once decisions started coming in, UIUC became an obvious choice for CS for me.

How did you manage the stress of the application season?
I procrastinated. Don't do what I did. I procrastinated, then burned out, then just chugged through the rest of my applications. What's better to do is just to step away at points, and consider the bi

Do you recommend using private counseling and/or essay editing services?

How long did you spend on each essay?
You should spend the most time on your main essay. Every school sees that and places the most emphasis on that. That one took me the longest by far, went through multiple versions, and was very effort

How did you decide where to apply early?
I never wanted any binding decisions, so I went EA at most. I hadn't finalized my list by the time November 1st rolled around, but I knew that applying early is advantageous for top schools, so I appl

How did you choose your recommenders?
My two recommendation letters were from my AP Calculus BC teacher and my AP US Government teacher. I asked them because of the typical requirement/request from most schools for one teacher to be STEM

What questions were you asked during your interviews?
I only had one interview with MIT, and they asked all the typical questions like why MIT, tell me about yourself, tell me about a challenge, ect. My best advice is to look up these interview questions
