As an international applying for financial aid, I opted in for schools I knew had generous scholarships (and those that I would take over my "target school" in Canada). I originally applied to Yale REA, but was rejected... not even deferred. I then changed my approach to my application for the 7 schools, which led to my acceptance! How? I created a cohesive narrative that encapsulated my diverse interests, which is demonstrated throughout my essays. I encourage you to read the essays for the ones I was denied at too (especially Harvard and Yale), which were not as cohesive as all the rest and may have led to the rejection.
