The latest verified figure for NYU's New York operation is 9.1% for Fall 2025. NYU reported 114,125 first time freshman applications and 10,340 acceptances. The numbers appear in a May 2026 report from the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. The state authority says NYU supplied the enrollment data.

The university has welcomed its Class of 2030, but it has not released a comparable university wide rate for that class. Until it does, 9.1% is the latest verified New York benchmark, not a Class of 2030 result.

That distinction sounds fussy. It isn't. Students make bad school list decisions when an old rate gets copied onto a new year and quietly turns into a prediction.

Here is what you can say accurately as of July 2026:

Why NYU's rate is unusually easy to misread

NYU is one university with several undergraduate schools and three degree granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi, and Shanghai. Those are not interchangeable applicant pools.

A number for NYU Abu Dhabi is not the New York campus rate. A figure for NYU Shanghai may include a separate process for Chinese applicants. A graduate program rate says nothing about first year undergraduate admission. The overall New York figure also hides big differences across schools. An older NYU Class of 2027 announcement made that point clear. Nearly 120,000 students applied across NYU's global network in that cycle. The New York campus admitted 8%, while three unnamed undergraduate colleges admitted fewer than 5%.

This is why your intended school matters before you start comparing yourself with admitted students. An applicant to Tisch may need an artistic review. A Stern applicant needs a convincing academic and business direction. A Tandon applicant should show preparation for the technical work. The overall rate cannot measure any of that.

What the 9.1% benchmark does tell you

A 9.1% rate means NYU New York should be treated as a reach for almost everyone. It does not matter whether your GPA and test scores sit near the top of NYU's usual range. Most academically qualified applicants will still be denied.
