Future ChemEng at Stanford | First-Generation | Low-income Public HS | Procrastination Expert
I haven’t done anything mind-blowing (I had leadership roles in varsity sports, volunteered a lot, and took a chunk of AP/college classes, but that’s about it), so I chose to focus on writing the best essays I could. I didn’t get anything reviewed professionally—I mostly asked my father and uncle to look over them—and I definitely procrastinated a little more than I’d have liked to (especially for the UCs, UW-Madison, and Purdue). I applied to nine schools (though my original list was much higher at 13-18 schools). I was a major procrastinator and generally a bad applicant, lol.

Were you accepted anywhere without an interview, or with a poor interview?
Yes! My interview for Stanford was rocky at best; I locked my keys, phone, and wallet in my car before meeting with my (polite, but not friendly) interviewer. I used her phone to ask my dad to drive 4

Who should read over your essays?
I had 2-3 people read the bulk of my essays: my father, my uncle, and my school counselor. In my opinion, you should pick 2 people who know you (my father and counselor) and can help you understand th

How did you decide where to apply early?
It's pretty simple (and this has been corroborated by a Stanford AO): If your grades, extracurriculars, community service, etc. from your freshman through junior year feel strong enough to you, you sh

How did you manage the stress of the application season?
I didn't, lol. I complained a lot. I cried. I panicked. I procrastinated. Especially given how damning all the information about passion projects, nonprofits, rejections, etc. was online, I thought th
