In the end, I applied to 14 schools (which ended up being a ton of work considering many universities have their own unique prompts). Luckily, I was able to recycle some content so you might see some repeat essays; however, there are slight variations on each to cater the recycled content to each university. I developed a cohesive theme around my application (I think) relating to my curiosity and drive to understand the built environment (and specifically transportation) in order to design inclusive, barrier-free spaces. my essays/advice are not gospel, but hopefully they help with your brainstorming. :) If you have any questions, or are possibly interested in working with me: email: milesda04@gmail.com

How long did you spend on the Common App Essay?
I edited my Common App Essay quite literally up until my January 1st deadline for Columbia, and even then I still kept tinkering with it up until the other deadlines. More specifically however, I rewr

Did you earn any selective scholarships? How did you strategically position yourself to get selected?
So I earned the Provost Scholarship from Georgia Tech as an out of state student in California (they accept 60 in total, though it's easier for in state residents is my understanding). Anyhow, I didn'

Who should read over your essays?
Anybody and everyone (that you trust). My only caveat is that, at a certain point, more proofreaders can become problematic. For instance, I had 5 people proofread x essay and eventually I was able

How did you decide where to apply early?
Heard that Georgia Tech EA2 would make it easier to get in... so... I actually intended to apply early to Princeton too, but didn't because I wasn't ready. I would suggest taking more time to work ou

Weirdest Interview?
My UPenn interview was strange because the interviewer asked questions that basically none of the other schools asked. In fact, I asked the first question, which was why he was opting to do phone inte

Interview Prep?
Have an agenda. What I mean by that is you need to know what you want to talk about even before the interview starts (obviously, but let me cook). Here's what I did: 1. List anything that you didn't m
